OGA has moved to Tumblr

December 3, 2013

Tumblr

We’re currently in the process of re-establishing OGA’s direction and w’eve been discussing how the project should exist on and offline and why. With the deluge of photo blogs online, seeking your hit for photo news and new photo talent can be some what easy, so in a bid to keep the quality of content posted on this site we are using the less is more principle.

The WordPress site we’ve been using for the last three years has become increasingly difficult to work with and the addition of unwanted ads in-turn requiring additional payments to remove has lead us to experiment with a shift to Tumblr.

Head over to http://onegiantarm.tumblr.com to keep up to date with future, news, reviews, projects and events and also our Facebook page is still there offering it’s members the chance to network with many like minded individuals by clicking here: FBOOK PAGE.

its

James Meredew is a talented photographer whose work we’ve  shown at previous OGA exhibitions here in Bristol. We were pleased to hear a few months ago that he was embarking on a group book project using his part of the U.K as the subject. We’ve been looking forward to seeing the results and the book has now been printed and is available online. It looks great and has a large host of photographers work featured including various contributors we have featured on OGA.

‘It’s a Small World was a project to get together a group of like-minded people who shared a love for film photography and the county of Cornwall.

This book includes work from established photographers and amateurs who have been moved in some way to photograph Cornwall and show it in their way. Featuring a diverse range of portraits, landscapes and stories from the photographers.’

Sander Meisner 7

Sander Meisner is a Photographer, currently living and working in Amsterdam. He recently sent us over his work and we enjoyed looking through his online portfolio, bringing to mind the work of Rut Blees Luxemburg. When describing is relationship with the photographic image he told us:

‘I work with themes and ideas dealing with public space, abstraction, transformation, the passing of time, change, utopia/dystopia, function and transition. In geometric, almost abstract shapes and lines, I photograph the usually overlooked corners of buildings. I look for these compositions at night, when the sun is gone the artificial lights in and around buildings create a lot of color and shapes which the naked eye cannot see. When I photograph these grim and grey places with extremely long exposures, the night turns out to be very colourful and beautiful.

Wandering through the edges of cities, looking for colourful beauty in the desolate corners of grey, man-made, structures, I photograph the (sleeping) infrastructure of the urban environment.’

Cristobal Traslaviña Berrios

October 23, 2013

Cristobal-Traslavina-15

We’ve not really been pushing the web site side of things recently as we’ve been trying to make the shift from web based out puts to more real world situations. We’re attempting to make a tactical retreat from incessant posting online introducing viewers to the newest photographers but we will still be posting work, projects and news from the inbox that captures our imagination.

In this vain we would like to introduce Cristobal Traslaviña Berrios, a Chilean Artist Photographer who sent us his work back in August. When describing his approach to photography Cristobal explains:

‘How to document the world without sacrificing to take a position, my own, in this world?

My job is not to look at the world, but to find a way to be in it. I feel much more at home camouflaged and protected in the dark side of life. Getting ready on the side of hard drugs and pleasures disfigured, denying morality set by society.

My way of seeing and capturing that wild, homeless uprooted, causing the sensation of fragility in an environment that presents hostile: the world of the night, drugs and prostitution.’

Cristobal  sent us over a set of images titled Resiliencia and told us:

‘To rebound:

It has been more than forty years since the photographic theory imposed the photo as memory of the absent, and it seems that all image point to an “aestheticization” of everything that is portrayed, anything when is converted in an image is meaningless. How then, should be the images that are not meant to turn the body in an empty space? Is it possible a representation that does not become an aesthetic regulation?’
